Forgiveness Mentoring

Personal Freedom through Forgiveness

We begin today by pumping up our energy and affirming: “Yes,yes, yes,” in order to find the strength to begin to face the idea of forgiving our past.

Forgiveness offers us the key to release the burdens of sadness, guilt, anger, and victim hood. These emotions are stored up inside of us when we hold negativity toward our self and/or others.

We can carry great negativity about past actions and situations. These are held in our psyche, our unconscious, and our conscious minds. It does not occur to us that releasing the past, letting it go, will enhance the quality of our life. It will release us from our self-made, inner jails.

I recommend using A Course In Miracles, a year long course focusing on forgiveness. I also recommend my book: At Your Heart’s Pace which is brimming with helpful exercises and tools that assist you in your working with forgiveness issues.

A helpful first step toward taking action about forgiving, is to ponder the importance of letting the past go. Contemplating this will bring you the particular issues you need to address in order to free your self from the past.

Much of my work with others as a mentor involves forgiveness issues. As spiritual students, we cannot carry a burden of guilt or sadness and expect to experience peace and joy.

When you find it difficult to let go of the past, consider doing some mentoring work with me. Go to my Spiritual Mentoring page.

Peace to you.

Hello and welcome. I am Ellen Sutherland and here we are being spiritual.

We are doing our “yes, yes, yes” (See: blog post How to Change your State of Mind and Emotion). We are doing our “yes, yes, yes,” because today I want to talk about something people mostly avoid which is forgiveness – letting go of the past – letting go of their guilt – letting go of their sadness about how someone should have been and wasn’t; how they should have been and weren’t and, what to do about it. What do you do about these states? Well most people (I did it for years) stick their head in the sand. My way was that I stuck my face in a book. I read and read. I hid away in stories and novels.

But eventually you have to pay the piper. Eventually you are faced with the situations. The person comes back into your life, or they die and you can’t make it up to them anymore. Somebody else just like them, or worse, comes into your life and is in your face and there is the issue that you have held in your heart as a wound.

There is a person who doesn’t love you, just the way your father didn’t love you. There’s is a person who acts just like the one you loved and got away acted and, they are still getting away. Whatever your wound is – we have a myriad of possible hurts and guilt stuck in our psyche.

So what do you do about them? Maybe it is time. Maybe the piper is playing in your background and you have decided to live a spiritual life and everything you’ve pushed away is coming up. Everything is coming up in your face. It is as if your whole life has been turned upside down on to the carpet. There it is, all that you did not face. It can be quite a devastating time. It is actually a really exciting time too, once you get to it.

Let’s look at forgiveness. What do you do. How do you deal with forgiveness issues? I have been in A Course In Miracles for many years. It is a year-long course where you basically work with the idea that you are already perfect. So the idea of Enlightenment which is what Realized masters tell us, once they become Enlightened and Realized, that we are already perfect and we just didn’t know it. That is why it is called “realization.” This focus is the same with ACIM. The idea is that you are already perfect. It uses the Atonement principle, which is the principle that you give out the truth to another person – you see their perfection. That giving eventually works in you until you realize, huh! there is nothing wrong (with me), I am innocent too. As I see your innocence, I find my innocence.

That (ACIM) is one thing that I’ve done. I’ve also worked for years and years releasing energetically with Reiki. I do Reiki, I teach it now. So I work with people encouraging them to get into the Course. Some like it, it is Christian based, some do not into that being Buddhist and agnostics…people that have not a faith, per se, still have all sorts of issues, all sorts of forgiveness problems, if you like, eating at their hearts.

Also I wrote a book: At Your Heart’s Pace. It has many, many exercises to help you have a look at what is stopping and what is blocking – addressing a lot of work in that area. I offer a lot of tools to people because I know what it is like, I know what it is like to have forgiveness issues, to have stuff from your past eating at you – being the lens through which you see the world. The lens through which you doubt someone really loving you because you have this belief in being awful to someone else. You believe that they will never forgive you so how could you be loveable?

We hold a lot of that “stuff” in our psyche, in our unconscious and our conscious minds. We believe it so firmly that it doesn’t occur to us that releasing, releasing the past, letting it go, will change it.

Yes! Yes! Yes! and that we can be happy – that we are happy. It is our basic nature. So that’s what I do. My mentoring is about helping people have a look at the past. It is exciting work, exciting work.

But if you are not into mentoring or having someone help you decide which areas to release from your past, which forgiveness issues, at least make your self a list, write them out. Gary Craig did this; suggested this. Write out a list of everything that bugs you. Those are all forgiveness issues. Then to resolve them, I have lots of tapping videos on my site and some surrendering and releasing as well and there are all sorts of tools in my book At Your Heart’s Pace… or you could just call me for a session.

But work it out. Find out – discover – where your joy is, where your peace is, where your freedom is when you let go of even one forgiveness issue. Even letting go of one of them will make a big difference in your life.

My whole intention is to assist in bringing more peace – forgiving the past will do that.

Peace to you.
